Cheryl Robertson is a seasoned facilitator and executive coach, with decades of experience in supporting leaders across the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Her approach to coaching involves creating a safe space for the client, while holding an open heart, mind, and will in service of their unique journey of growth and transformation.
She retired from the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR) in 2020, where she served as the Supervisory Human Resources Specialist for Human Resource Development since 2008. In this role she supported the District’s High School Internship Program, the Centralized College Internship Program, the Capital City Fellows Program, the Certified Public Manager® Program, and the L.E.A.P. Academy, and helped recruit hundreds of mid- and senior-level leaders to the DC Government. Many of these leaders went on to become Directors and Deputy Directors in local government agencies.
While working with the District, she was also instrumental in developing and implementing apprenticeship programs, which expanded opportunities for local youths to get placements in various industries, such as healthcare, IT, and human resource management.
From 2017-2018, she also served as the Chair of the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium (NCPMC), the accrediting body for the Certified Public Manager® programs. During her tenure as the Chair, she led the Consortium to establish the first international Certified Public Manager Program with Leiden University in the Netherlands. It was the first program of its kind in a European university.
Cheryl became a Certified Professional Coach in October 2015, and started her own coaching practice, InnerGrow Integrated Coaching, in 2019. As a coach and a facilitator she specializes in coaching women leaders and youth, particularly the non-traditional students entering the workforce.
Working with the DC Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Women’s Leadership Coaching Program, she helped high-potential women leaders think through their vision and a path forward to their desired success, hone their leadership presence, and grow their personal brand. Several DDOT participants were promoted to management upon completion of the program, describing their work with Cheryl as “life-changing”.
In 2020 Cheryl co-Founded a non-profit to help underserved youth called SoulFull Life University (SLU), which provides just-in-time work readiness training, financial literacy education, career advisory, and leadership coaching to the most underserved communities in Washington, DC, nationally, and internationally.
Cheryl is the oldest of nine siblings. One month after her seventeenth birthday, her mother passed away and Cheryl found herself becoming the mother figure to nine children, ages sixteen to just one years old. Cheryl credits a lot of her wisdom gained from this journey in her life and the reason for why she is so committed to giving back to the next generation of leaders.
