Joan Wangler

Joan is a senior leadership coach with over 25 years of experience working with leaders in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.  An ICF Master Certified Coach since 1999, she helps clients identify and leverage their strengths and passions for greater contribution and fulfillment. Through leadership initiatives, executive and team coaching, she works with clients to increase self-awareness and resourcefulness, build community, learn from one another, and achieve far-reaching personal and organizational goals.  Some clients call her a “dream catcher.”

She has worked with thousands of leaders to provide practical and creative strategies for leading change and moving more successfully through transition. Her expertise includes building and sustaining creative intergenerational leadership communities, giving and receiving effective feedback, cultivating emotional and conversational intelligence, strengthening resilience, choosing to be happy, raising awareness about civility and respectful confrontation and combating compassion fatigue. She is the chief designer and facilitator of NASA Goddard’s Diversity and Civility Creative Learning Group initiative, a dynamic coaching community of practice introduced in 2000 and still going strong.

Her coaching work has been featured in several books and articles including A Coach’s Guide to Emotional Intelligence: Strategies for Developing Successful Leaders, 2008. Joan is a graduate of the New Ventures West Coaching School and has engaged in advanced coaching work with Newfield and CTI. She holds a Masters in Education in Reading from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Masters of Science in Educational Administration from the State University of New York at Albany.
