Certificate Program in Enterprise Risk Management in Government

Public sector organizations face more and diverse crises today than ever before. Given our connected world, these disruptive events can have a rippling effect throughout an organization, crippling its ability to meet its mission and strategic objectives. Using traditional approaches to risk management that are compartmentalized and focused operationally can result in significant losses and the inability to achieve desired results. A new risk management paradigm is required, one that is grounded in an organization's strategic goals and priorities, and takes into account the ever-changing, dynamic government operating environment. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) offers a framework that can help organizations understand and manage the full spectrum of risks they confront, thereby improving uncertainty planning and achieving better performance results. To implement such a framework, organizations need persons who can help build a successful ERM Program that provides an integrated, holistic view of risk that is both inward- and outward-focused.

The ERM CERTIFICATE PROGRAM at the George Washington University is designed to provide you with the fundamental concepts and processes, principles, tools and techniques of ERM in the context of organizational change. The program will not only help you develop your knowledge of the ERM process, procedures and skills, but also enable you to apply the coursework to a practical application relevant to your organization.
