Dr. Wanda PetersDr. Wanda Peters has extensive professional experience working for the federal government and private industry. She has 34 years of scientific and engineering experience, including 20 years of technical management experience. Dr. Peters is a member of the Senior Executive Service in the federal government, presently serving as the Deputy Director for Planning and Business Management in the Flight Projects Directorate (FPD) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  She is responsible for strategic planning, policy development, personnel management, FPD portfolio business assessments, program/project performance management, and configuration management.

Dr. Peters started her career at Goddard in January 1990 as a support contractor and converted into the government in 2005.  Prior to joining the NASA family, she worked at the Naval Research Laboratory as a research scientist. At NASA, Dr. Peters has worked in the areas of: flight project management, business resource management, mechanical systems engineering, space technology development; and safety and mission assurance. She has served in numerous positions such as the thermal control coatings engineering discipline lead for over 35 missions, Principle Investigator for the Lotus Dust Mitigation Coating, Contract Officer’s Representative (COR) of a $750M engineering support services contract, Source Evaluation Board (SEB) Chair, Mechanical Systems Division (MSD) Assistant Chief for Operations, MSD Associate Chief, Acting Associate Director of the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate, and FPD Associate Director. She has authored and co-authored over 18 publications. She is a mentor, mentee and advocates for diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Dr. Peters has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore; a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the Catholic University of America; and a Master of Engineering Management and a Doctor of Philosophy in Systems Engineering from George Washington University. Dr. Peters is a Senior Executive Fellow of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She is married and has two daughters.
